Single ‘Polka’
Out Now

If you’re looking for something different in the music world, then Australia is a good place to start. I have a pen friend over there who sends me CDs sometimes, though I can safely say that I’ve not heard anything quite like this before.

Yves Klein Blue are certainly unique in name, nature, and even My Space artwork. This four piece band from Brisbane has a lot of Aussie success to their name, but I’m not quite sure how their music would go down over here. Their single ‘Polka’ is a veritable mash-up of styles, and if I’m honest, I’m not quite sure what to make of it.

The quirky, talking vocal style and simplistic guitar rhythms put me in mind of 90’s indie pop, but just when you think you have their direction figured out, madness happens. The band randomly launches into frantic heavy rock/metal/ska style instrumentals. So where one minute you’re tapping your feet and indulging in a bit of nostalgia, the next you’re confronted with a wall of sound, which to me, seems a little messy and not altogether easy on the ear. It’s a song that has a credible live sound, and a lot of energy, but there’s far too much going on. I would suggest checking out some of their other Myspace tracks which have a stronger identity.
