The last surviving member of The Ramones has died.

Tommy Ramone, one of the founding members of the iconic Punk group has died at the age 62.

The drummer, who was born Erdelyi Tamas and also known as Thomas Erdelyi had been receiving hospice care for bile duct cancer when he passed away at home.

He was the last surviving member of the band’s original line-up.

The news of the drummer’s death was confirmed on The Ramones Twitter account earlier this morning. The tweet said: “We are saddened to announce the passing of Ramones founding drummer Tommy (Erdelyi) Ramone. #RIPTommyRamone”

Tommy was one of the founding members of the New York band, along with Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny in 1974.

The band went on to become one the biggest Punk bands in the world, inspiring a generation of musicians and defining a musical era.

Tommy drummed for the band’s debut, self-titled album; as well as Rocket to Russia and Leave Home. After leaving the band, he also co-produced the band’s fourth album and ‘Too Tough to Die’ in 1984.

The band went on to release 14 albums before being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
