Tinashe/Kissy Sell Out: ‘Come On Over’ (Single)

Track taken from the ‘Mayday EP’ by Tinashe

As collaborations go, this one sounded pretty good on paper, so I couldn’t resist checking out ‘Come On Over’ a collaboration between Tinashe, and well known DJ/Producer Kissy Sell Out, and it’s a song that delivers in abundance! In the first instance it was a refreshing listen, lively urban pop/dance, coming in amidst a flood of indie tracks, but the song doesn’t just stand out for being different, it stands out for being good.

‘Come On Over’ is attention grabbing from the first, with a lively intro, quirky string arrangements, and easy to listen to urban/pop beats. Although I wasn’t too sure about the vocal, it does have an edge, and combines well with the music, especially later on in the song. I was also interested to learn that Tinashe was originally from Zimbabwe, and I can hear African influences in the track, especially in the percussion/backing vocals. All in all, it’s a great pop song, and yes it did leave me wanting more, so I hope this partnership can produce more songs in the future. If you want to check this song out for yourself, then it forms part of the ‘Mayday EP’ out now on San City High/Island Records.
