Ska Cubano: Ay Caramba! (Video)

Video of a performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Event in 2005.

Armed with some gig and event listings, I recently undertook a research session, to put names to faces, and music to names. One of the acts I looked up was Ska Cubano, who were scheduled to appear at the Essex Global Gala in Chelmsford over the May Bank Holiday.

These guys combine Cuban, Jamaican, Ska, and Reggae influences, to create a sound that is world renowned. This video is a performance of Ay Caramba, taken from the Nobel Peace Prize Event in 2005. The song is an instantly engaging, and very summery mix of guitars, percussion, sax, and trumpet. Although for me the brass solos stumbled a bit, I still enjoyed the lively feel to the music, the charismatic singer, and the well written melody. The title of the song Ay Caramba is commonly used as an expression of surprise, but I am not surprised to see people jumping along, singing, and dancing to this act in the videos I viewed. Ay Caramba is a catchy song, and although completely different to anything I’ve reviewed before, I enjoyed it.
