Ronnie Wood – Music Personality Award

The rock’n’roll star best known for his drunken antics and previous exploits within the rock world has been awarded an award which has surprised many fans and music industry experts.

The 63 year old star has been announced as the Music Radio Personality of the Year; this comes as much shock as Wood has only been involved within the radio industry for the past twelve month. He has seen off numerous big name presenters in order to win this award, including Radio Ones Chris Moyles who many had to tipped to win.

Numerous other awards were presented on the evening, with two awards going to the BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine. His double award winnings came from an interview with Gordon Brown just after he had been caught on microphone bad mouthing a voter and also for a pre-election interview he conducted.

Honorary awards were presented to two legendary DJs, these were Jenni Murray and Annie Nightingale; both of whom were recognised for their outstanding commitment to music and radio. Both were commended for the ability to recognise and play new talent on a broad scale.

Ronnie Wood was presented his award for his radio show that features on Absolute Radio. The individual who is heavily publicised within the press for his battle with alcohol saw off the biggest names in radio including Moyles, Jarvis Cocker, Frank Skinner and Scott Mills.

Despite being surprisingly awarded this award, Wood actually missed out on the award he was tipped to receive. The Sony DAB Rising Star Award went to ex Derby County captain Robbie Savage. The football player received the award for the role he plays on 5 Live’s 606 show; he is the co-host.

Popular Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe was also recognised at the awards show, he was presented wit the award for Music Broadcaster of the Year. Lowe is very popular within the UK music scene and is well known for playing some of the newest songs within the UK market.

The radio station of the year was also announced at the awards ceremony, this went to talkSPORT. This radio station continues to grow from strength to strength with its in depth analysis on different sporting fixtures.

Chris Moyles has stated that he his disappointed that he did not win the personality award but recognises the excellent efforts Ronnie Wood has displayed.
