The Warner Brothers record label has confirmed the break up of major band REM. The world famous rock band have now parted ways; this was confirmed after the band stated they had decided to call it a day as a band. It is believed that the members of the band will remain close friends and that the break up was totally amicable.
In 1997 REM were almost forced to split up after the original drummer of the band Billy Berry suffered from a brain aneurysm whilst performing on the show. This forced the drummer to retire from the music industry and the ban was obviously left one member short. The band closely considered retiring but the original drummer Billy convinced the band to stay together.
The band did stay together and they became one of the best-known bands worldwide. During a thirty one year career the band produced fifteen albums with many of them selling worldwide. Popular selling albums included Murmur, Reckoning, Document, Out of Time, New Adventures n Hi-Fi and Automatic For the People.
The band is now expected to release a greatest hits album and this will be without doubt a major success. REM have become one of the most popular bands within the UK and across the world. The band has completed many tours and festivals; with the majority of these being sell outs.
Rumours continue to grow suggesting that the band break up was not amicable although the record label has suggested that I was totally amicable. Whatever the reason for the break up the band will remain in history through their music. The band has arguable become one of the most popular rock bands in the world. A legacy for new music has been left behind by the band and a future regroup has not been ruled out.
