MySpace wasn’t content to just connect us to the people of the world, it decided to connect us to the music of the world too. Over the years, millions of users have become ‘friends’ of their favourite new and unsigned artists, and some have managed to get up close and personal with them too, thanks to MySpace.
2008 saw many students go green with envy, as Harrogate Grammar got a special visit from MySpace, and their celebrity friends. Kate Nash, Fightstar, The Wombats, and DJ Ironik all performed at the school.
MySpace didn’t want one school to have all the fun though, so School Invasions is back, bigger and better than ever in 2009. There’s still time for you and your school to be a part of it, so here’s the lowdown;
Five schools in different regions across the U.K will each win a gig with popular rock act Elliot Minor, and there’s £1,000 of school music equipment up for grabs too.
To enter the competition, you, you’re friends, and even your school teachers can visit www.myspace.com/schoolinvasions and begin voting/campaigning for your school. There are freebies available to help your promotion, and various ways to earn more votes as well, including uploading photos and videos. Basically it all depends on you, and how much support you can rally for your school!
All schools have until March 27th to register their votes, with the winners announced on April 10th. The tour itself takes place between 27th April and 1st May, and is sure to make life very interesting for the winners.
Whoever the eventual winners are, one thing’s for sure, Elliot Minor can’t wait to get out on the road and meet you all. Singer and guitarist, Alex Davies says, “We Love to play our music live, and this competition is all about bringing music to the schools. Our love of music started at school with passionate teachers, and mates who would get together to play music, and learn the hits of the day. We can’t wait to get back to school with MySpace, meet everyone, and put on a show for the winners.”
Remember you only have until March 29th to be in with a chance of winning, so visit www.myspace.com/schoolinvasions now and start voting for your school. For further information on Elliot Minor visit www.myspace.com/elliotminor.
