NME Awards

Many of the UK music stars turned out in force in order to visit the annual NMW Awards recently. The event which was held at London’s O2 Academy saw Kasabian picking up the award for best British band.

On receiving the award the band, originally from Leicester, dedicated it to the Devy Jones who recently passed away. After dedicating the award to the musical legend the band put on an impromptu version of The Monkees whilst on stage.

The Foo Fighters were also recognised at the awards ceremony after they were presented with the gong for the best international band. The NME music award for the best new band was presented to The Vaccines.

One surprising award at the ceremony was the best solo artist gong, many people had expected this to be presented to Adele but instead it was presented to Florence and the Machine.

Former Oasis front man Noel Gallagher, who is now making a great solo career, was recognised by being awarded the godlike genius accolade.

Pulp was recognised with the NME award for their outstanding contribution to music. The band thanked their many fans for travelling to see them last year and stated they were honoured by the award.
