It has been revealed that Metallica will be headlining the Download Festival next summer, this festival will be taking place between 8-10 June. The drummer of Metallica, Lars Ulrich, confirmed that the band would be returning to the annual rock festival. Lars Ulrich stated that they would be playing at the festival whilst on the Zane Lowe show on Radio 1.
According to the band the Download festival is the most sacred place for a rock band to play. Whilst at the festival Metallica will perform their Metallica album which is also know as The Black Album. This album will be played in its entirety and this will be done in order to celebrate the 21st anniversary of its release.
Metallica previously performed at the Download Festival in 2006 and they are believed to be very much looking forward to performing again.
The drummer stated that coming back at the Download Festival is very special to him. The fans of Metallica will also see them perform three songs that they have never done so before. These songs are The Struggle Within, My Friend of Misery and Don’t Tread On Me.
The second headlining act of the festival is expected to be announced soon. The headliners from last year at Download included Def Leppard, System Of A Down and Linkin Park. This will be the eighth time that Metallica has performed at the festival.
The organisers of the festival stated that the album that they will perform is regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. The Black Album was number one in more than twenty five countries and has sold more than twenty million copies worldwide.
Popular songs on the album include Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven.
