It’s not quite Halloween yet, but there’s definitely some magic in the air, as Chelmsford based band the Library Suits unleash their first single release ‘You Don’t Have To Be A Wizard’. The four piece band pack quite a punch, right from the first note of this song, with a seriously catchy and very danceable riff. The track continues in an edgy indie/rock style, and there’s quite a bit of force behind the consistent vocal performance of lead singer Jon Ruskin.
Lyrically, the Library Suits always produce something of interest, and this time around they’ve based their story on a phrase sourced from a documentary on Imelda Marcos, who among other things is one of the worlds best known shoe collectors! Add to this a simple yet effective verse, and of course the well produced, and rhythmic instrumentation, and you have a pretty impressive introduction to the band. I was initially undecided on this track, but now I’m converted, and really enjoying the acoustic version of the song too. Well worth looking out for!
With a single, inevitably comes a video, and Rich, Matt, Paul, and Jon, certainly have a few tricks up their sleeves with this effort. Watch and laugh as The Library Suits head to Camden, London, with a couple of wizards in tow, for a day of madness, mayhem, and a little bit of magic. Take a look for yourselves, and you might just spot a Hogwarts star lurking in a few shots. As for the other wizard, well, he has quite an interesting day out!!
For a first video it’s definitely more imaginative/fun than a lot i’ve seen! The comedic storyline is also interspersed with shots of the band performing the song at famous Camden venue The Barfly. It’s really two video’s for the price of one, and I think everyone will enjoy watching the story unfold, and having the chance to share in what I’m sure was a great gig. Picky people might find the video a little dark in places, and the camera work a little frantic/darting, but hey this is rock and roll!!
