JLS and Tinie Tempah scoop Mobo Awards

Mobo Awards went to JLS and Tinie Tempah who enjoyed the major spoils at the event held in Liverpool. The former X Factor finalists JLS won the best album award and were also named best UK act. Tinie Tempah, the hip hop MC, won awards for best newcomer and best video for his single Frisky. Other winners included N Dubz and Plan B.

Many of the acts and winners at the award show were keen to stress how far the awards has come since its establishment in 1996. This was the 15th Mobo awards ceremony. Alesha Dixon stated, “I think that the urban music scene is in a really strong place. The artists that are here are dominating the charts at the moment and it feels like a real celebration of what has been an incredible year for urban music”. The awards for Tinie Tempah showed just how far he has risen since his debut single release seven month ago.

At present he has two tracks in the top five singles chart and has also sold more singles that any other in the UK so far this year, he said, “Last year I was here as a spectator just watching my friends pick up awards. So now it’s nice to be here and to have finally won something”. Another individual who has recently shot to fame, Professor Green also picked up an award for best UK hip hope and grime act.
