Since music.co.uk has launched, we’ve reported on a variety of festivals, some of which have unfortunately bowed to financial pressure and competition, and been cancelled. One event that has stood the test of time, and now celebrates its 27th birthday in 2010 is the Beverley Festival, an acoustic/roots/folk music event, held in the East Yorkshire town of Beverley, in the North East of the UK.
From the 18th-20th June a varied line-up of acts will take to the stage at the festival, alongside several well known headliners. Adding a distinctly Scottish theme to the event, will be Eddi Reader, a former member of Fairground Attraction, and the worldwide success story that is The Proclaimers. They will be joined by the unique fiddle playing talent that is Blazin’ Fiddles. Regular attendees to the festival will also be pleased to hear a few favourite acts will be returning to perform, including Roy Bailey and Tony Benn, and The Brighouse and Rastrick Band. English Song and Dance will also be represented courtesy of the Demon Barber Roadshow, and the Martin Simpson Trio, while an American twang will be echoing long into the night, when the likes of fiddle player Bruce Molsky, banjo player Curtis Eller, and Blues/Gospel artist Spencer Bohren have performed.
Alongside the main-stage music activities, there will also be an alternative marquee hosting spoken word and acoustic sessions, comedy, and the Wold Top Marquee, with its special festival ale, and late night club. This will all be topped off by a packed program of family activities, children’s events, and a festival village full of craft, food, and other stalls. There’s also the chance to explore the historic market town, Beverley Minster, and many of the local pubs, which often host fringe events and live music during the festival.
If this sounds like your kind of festival, then head on over to www.beverleyfestival.com for further details, and info on their adult/child/weekend/camping ticket packages that are on-sale now.
