If you’re planning a visit to the nearest record store anytime soon, then you’ll be spoilt for choice, as not one, not two, but three legends, release albums or singles in the coming months.
First off the starting blocks is musician and songwriter Ian Gillan. The Deep Purple front man has been busy in the studio, recording his first original album since 1997. Described as one of the greatest rock singers of all time, Gillan has scored many top 40 single and album hits, as part of Deep Purple, and as a solo artist. His career also took on a few surprising turns, when he recorded and toured with Black Sabbath, and contributed to the first studio album of Jesus Christ Superstar. ‘One Eye To Morocco’ is released on March 23rd. It’s a long awaited album, and sure to deliver some great musical memories.
Meanwhile Paul Carrack has a single release planned, also in March. In a career spanning 40 years, this man has been involved in some great acts; including Squeeze, Mike and The Mechanics, and Roxy Music. If that wasn’t enough, he has firmly established himself as a solo artist, and recently released his 14th solo album, ‘I Know That Name’. On March 30th he releases the 4th single from this album, entitled ‘No Doubt About It’. If you like the Chicago-Soul style of Curtis Mayfield, then you’re sure to love this, and if one single just isn’t enough, catch many more Carrack hits live, when Paul visits Ronnie Scotts in London from April 6th-8th.
Finally, not to be outdone, Ali Campbell also has an album release planned. ‘Flying High’ won’t be released until June 22nd, but it will be well worth the wait! Ali Campbell has always enjoyed working with musicians from different cultures around the world, and since leaving UB40, he’s had the chance to really explore World Music. The result is a collection of original songs and interesting covers that feature artists from Russia, Germany, Africa, and Australia, along with a few star guests you just might recognise. Fans can also catch Ali and his new project, The Dep Band, when they tour the U.K in the summer.
