One Direction Reveal ‘Big Surprise’

One Direction have revealed they will be embarking on their first stadium tour in 2014.

Last week the band teased fans with cryptic tweets from Liam Payne and Niall Horan, along with the official 1D Twitter account, telling fans to expect their biggest news to date.

In a press conference held in Wembley Stadium on May 16, the band announced that they were currently working on their third studio album, and would be playing a number of stadium dates next year.

The band, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malick will be playing a series of shows around the world next Spring.

One Direction have also promised fans with an album that has an ‘edgier’ sound to their previous work.

The world tour will being on April 25 in Columbia, and will come to a close at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on May 28.

In the run up to the press conference, a website titled ‘onebigannouncement.com’ was set up to count down the days until the big reveal on May 16.

The website crashed at midday as fans flocked to the site to find out what the band had in store.  The hash tag #1Dbigannouncement dominated the Twitter trending topics and fans expressed their speculations and hysteria for the upcoming news.

However many were left disappointed by the news; with people frustrated that tour dates hadn’t been announced near them, with others left feeling disappointed the new wasn’t something different.

Since finishing third in the X Factor, the band have become one of the biggest success stories to come from a reality TV show.

The band have sold millions of records around the world and are currently on their second tour, The Take Me Home Tour.

Tickets for the UK dates can be purchased for the ‘Big Tour’ on May 25.
