Digital Sales Rise

Digital sales continue to grow within the UK and unsurprisingly the number of compact discs being sold within the music industry has dropped dramatically. Many record companies plan to move towards digital music only in the coming years due to the demand for hard copies falling.

In the digital albums sales charts Adele is at number one with her second album 21 and this is also the biggest selling album of 2012 across all media. Ed Sheeran is also performing well, he has sold over 250,000 copies of his debut album.

Other major sellers in the digital charts include Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and Rihanna. Artists continue to perform well in the digital charts across all genres; Lady Gaga was at number three in the charts with The Fame, Kings of Leon at number four with Only By The Night and Rihanna in five with Loud.

The sales figures that have recently been revealed by the Official Charts Company now show that digital sales are now responsible for a third of all music album sales in the UK. Over the last two years there have been more than 50 million digital units sold in the UK.

The convenience associated with digital music has helped its major rise and it is expected to grow considerably in the coming years.
