Daft Punk Hit Number 1 Spot With Random Access Memories

Daft Punk have topped the UK album charts with album Random Access Memories.

The duo’s fourth studio album sold 165,000, making it the fastest selling album in the UK so far this year.

The sales of Random Access Memories have beaten those of Michael Buble, whose album To Be Loved was the fastest selling album of 2012; selling 121,000 copies in its first week.

Last weeks number one, Time by Rod Stewart slips down to the number two spot.

The top five is completed by The National, Texas and 30 Seconds to Mars who all had new releases this week.

Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events has finally dropped out of the top ten, after spending 66 weeks inside it.

Released in February last year, the album spent ten consecutive weeks in the number one spot, selling over 1.88 million copies in the UK alone.

Despite this it is still the biggest selling album of 2012 and of this year so far.

After four weeks at number one, Daft Punk were knocked off the top spot in the singles chart by Sam Smith and Naughty Boy’s La La La collaboration.

The single shifted over 145,000 copies in its first week of release, making it the fastest selling single of 2013 so far.

However Daft Punk still have the title of best selling single of the year so far, with Get Lucky selling 711,000 copies in just six weeks.
