Dance duo Daft Punk have broken the Spotify streaming records with their newest track, Get Lucky.

Featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers, Get Lucky is the French duo’s first new music release in eight years.

Officially released on April 19th, the track has become the most streamed track in the UK and the US in the first 24 hours of its release. Prior to this, the most streamed song in a 24 hour period was Pompeii by Bastille. In the US, the most streamed song was Macklemore and Thrift Shop.

The track reached number 3 in the UK singles chart last weekend, however it was only made available to purchase on Friday 19th April. Making it one of the most popular and purchased songs of the week with over 50,000 downloads in a 48 hour period.

However it has not been yet revealed by Spotify exactly how many times the song has been streamed.

The song became an instant success after Pharrell Williams debuted it at HTC Live in New York on Friday night.

Hours after the song had smashed the Spotify records, the performance was well received by the crowds.

During the rappers sixteen song send, Pharrell Williams played the song no less than three times; much to the delight of the audience.

Before the song started Pharrell told the audience: “Man, these guys that made this record, they’re like so far beyond their time. I’m honoured to know those guys, those robots.

“Those guys we have a lot of incredible history together. So when they called me over the summer, I just remembered thinking one thing… try to get lucky, right.”

The duo’s new album Random Access Memories features a number of collaborations, with Pharrell Williams being just one of the artists on the album.

Daft Punk’s new album will be released on May 20th.
