When the details were first announced for City Showcase 2010, the organisers promised it would be bigger, and better than ever, and by the look of the details coming through to music.co.uk, they can’t be far wrong.
Todays announcement sees the introduction of Rocklands to an already jam packed roster of seminars, workshops, club gigs, retail store pa’s, and other music goodness that makes up this superb event. Rocklands will be taking over the music scene in South East London, and just like the rest of City Showcase, will see a great bunch of venues coming together to promote the arts festival, and the new/emerging talent who feature as part of it. Along with some major retail outlets, venues involved in Rocklands include The Bunker, The Old Police Station, Amersham Arms, and The O2.
Visitors can experience the might of Rocklands on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th May 2010, and there will be a vote to decide which acts get the chance to perform on the music stage during Saturday’s event. This will be a day of live music and dance at The O2 arena, and a main stage finale at The British Music Experience attraction. With the area already receiving recognition for its cultural activities from the likes of Time Out, and The New York times, it sounds like an ideal location to further expand the City Showcase brand.
But there’s one more thing Rocklands needs, and that’s YOU! Over the last nine years City Showcase has been all about showcasing new and emerging talent, and this year is no different. If you’re a band, solo singer, duo, trio etc you can apply to take part in Rocklands, and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Keane, Razorlight, and N-Dubz. All genres of music are included in the event, so everyone has the chance to be involved. If this interests you, then you need to send a web or myspace link, brief biography, and photo to caffystluce.rocklands@googlemail.com by February 14th 2010.
