Bloc Weekend Shut Down

Bloc Weekend the popular dance and electronic music event held in London occurred this weekend but was shut down after chaotic scenes with major overcrowding occurring. The event which is one of the largest electronic music festivals in the UK was shutdown on Friday evening and the police were called in to help evacuate thousands of people.

The event was being held at the London docklands and had some of the biggest names in electronic music performing.

Members of the public that had paid to attend Bloc 2012 took to Twitter to anger their thoughts about the weekend. Although the official feed from the organiser continued to post tweets as if the event was still occurring.

Snoop Dog the US rapper had been lined up to be the headlining act on Friday night and Orbital had been drafted in to be the headline on Saturday. This year was the first time that the Bloc weekend had ever been held outside of a holiday resort. Previous events have been held at Pontin’s in Hemsby and Butlin’s in Minehead.

Tickets for the event ranged between £55 and £125 with the festival organisers describing Friday as a sell out night.

It has not been confirmed how many people were injured as a result of the overcrowding that occurred at the event.
