Artic Monkeys top Charts

The Sheffield based Indie band Artic Monkeys have topped the charts with their new album Suck It and See. The album has taken over the number one spot in the UK music charts and did so after just one week of release.

The album has knocked some of the biggest names in music down the charts. Most noticeably those that have suffered as a result of the success of the Artic Monkeys are Lady Gaga and Adele. Lady Gaga’s album Born This Way has moved down to number three and the popular album from Adele 21 has moved to number two.

Surprisingly to many music fans the Artic Monkeys have become the first British band to have a number one album in the UK charts this year. The bands previous three albums have also reached the top of the charts in the UK, now meaning that the band have had four successive number one albums. This record is something that was also achieved by the band Keane.

Artic Monkeys have been one of the most popular Indie bands since their rise to fame in 2006. Their first album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not was released in 2006 and holds a significant record. The record is for the fastest selling debut album, it sold more than 360,000 copies in its first week on the shelves. Their new album Suck It and See sold 82,000 copies in its first week on sale.

The band who have recently been focusing on the American market have travelled back to the UK in order to have numerous concerts. They recently performed two homecoming gigs in the city of Sheffield. The Artic Monkeys performed to more than 20,000 fans at the Don Valley Stadium.

In 2002 the band started recording their material and they rose to fame by displaying their music through an Internet based radio station. They are recognised as one of the most popular Indie bands and have achieved great recognition from the music industry.
