Album deal for star of ‘irritating’ Go Compare advert

The star of the UK’s most irritating advert has signed a six album deal with Warner Records. Wynne Evans, 38, of Carmarthen, Wales, plays the annoying opera singer in the Go Compare
adverts and his first song, ‘A Song in my Heart’, is due to be released in March. The advert was voted ‘most irritating’ of 2010 in a recent survey; the second time the advert won
the award.

Evans studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio, London. “I thought they’d stop making the ads” he said. Whilst initially being hurt by criticism of the advert, he said he was “really proud” of achieving national recognition for the Go Compare website.

Evans has performed in a number of roles for Welsh National Opera and has also sung before 20 rugby internationals at the Millennium Stadium.

The album sees contributions from Nicholas Dodd, the Hollywood conductor. “I’ve basically had a ball recording all my favourite songs and I hope people will enjoy it,” Evans says on his website.

He added that he had included several Mario Lanza songs, along with other childhood favourites. “It was also important to me to get exciting new arrangements done and was delighted to have
Nicholas Dodd involved,” he added. “The arrangements are very ‘filmic’ and I love them.”
