Popular artist Adele who has recently announced that she is expecting her first child remains the top selling artist of this year. Her second album ‘21’ which was released in January 2011 has been revealed as the top selling album of 2012 so far. The artist has fought off tough competition from Emeli Sande and Lana del Rey.

Despite the album being released over a year ago the album continues to attract major sales, so far this year there have been 596,000 sales.

Since the album was released in early 2011 it has achieved over 4.36 million sales and in May it became the fifth biggest selling album of all time in the UK. In order to achieve this record Adele overtook Michael Jackson’s album Thriller.

The second biggest selling album of the year is the debut release from Emeli Sande, ‘Our Version of Events’. So far this year the album has achieved over 532,000 sales and Lana del Rey is at number three with ‘Born To Die’; this has made over 482,000 sales.

Ed Sheeran’s album is also performing well this year, it has sold over 448,000 copies and in total since its release it has made 1.2 millions ales. Coldplay continue to be majorly popular and have achieved 312,000 sales this year with ‘Mylo Xyloto’
