2010 Is ‘Shure’ To Be A Great Year For Songwriters

SW Logo FINAL

Apologies for the play on words, but I just couldn’t resist a pun to introduce this years Shure Songwriting Competition. Newly named the Shure Songwriting Award, this annual contest seeks to award the best in up-and-coming songwriting talent, across all genres of music.

As with previous years, entrants to the contest upload videos of themselves singing an original song to the award website. Following this, a combination of public votes, and judging panel decisions, will decide the final eight in the competition. Once the final eight have been decided, it’s crunch time. A celebrity guest judge will choose an overall winner, who will walk away with an amazing prize. This is where music.co.uk comes in, as we have exciting news, concerning both the prize and this year’s judge!
paloma

Drum roll please….this years judge is none other than Paloma Faith. This rather talented lady is a firm favourite with radio DJ’s, and has impressed the music world as a whole with her stunning album, ‘Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful’. She follows in the footsteps of former judges KT Tunstall, and Amy McDonald, something which she is very much looking forward to:

“I’m really excited to be involved with the judging of the Shure Songwriting Award with the ICMP. I think that competitions like this are important to help nurture and support new talent!”

Whoever Paloma eventually picks as a winner will win a one year professional song writing diploma course, at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance worth over £5,000. This course will bring you into contact with some of the best in the business, enable you to develop your song writing talent, and perform at gigs/showcase events. Who knows, you might even get lucky like last years winner Zemmy, who along with performing at various showcase events, also went on tour with Amy Studt. There’s also some great Shure goodies for two runners-up to take home, so triple the chance of a prize!

If this sounds like your kind of prize, and you think you’ve got what it takes to stand up and be counted as a songwriter, then get your thinking caps on and enter now! All you have to do is upload a video of your original song before April 2nd 2010. For terms and conditions, more information, or to enter the competition, visit qqq.shuresongwritingaward.com

Good Luck to all the entrants, and we look forward to hearing all your entries, and the winning song!
