What can we tell you about Darwin Deez? Well they’re American, they have a Myspace page packed full of quirky indie/pop tunes, some of which we think would make a great summer soundtrack, and of course, prior to visiting the UK, they took time out to tackle our 15 Questions. Bleep button at the ready for the odd naughty word folks!
How would you describe your act, in the style of an advert?
“Calculus Explained”
If you could read one newspaper headline about yourselves in 2010, what would it be?
“Deez Sweeps Grammy’s 9byline: singer to star in high concept feature opposite Katie Holmes)”
If a radio station gave you control of their shows and playlists for a day, what would you do?
Trade it for coke & hookers- a radio classic!
You decide to plan a launch for your new album/single release, what would your ideal event be?
A party at Prince’s house!
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt about the music industry?
Hire people and you will be losing some control.
Are there any instruments or other music related skills you’d like to pick up or improve on?
Yeah, piano!
You’re asked to design/come up with something to giveaway to fans at your gigs, what would it be?
Slap bracelets (what up ross?) and maybe my headband, after all it’s sweaty!
What’s your favourite part of music history? (acts/genres etc)
(Ed: We will never know!)
What was the last thing you googled online?
“Vampire Weekend Legal”. I was waiting on Ezra Koenig today, and thought we might have the same lawyer. I wasn’t sure, but he was too famous to ask at the time.
Have you any funny ‘You’ve Been Framed’ style stories you can share with us?
A girl once blogged about me, because she saw me at a show with a rat tail. But it wasn’t really a rat tail. When I discovered her blog, she declined to date me, despite my charming advances, and well lit photo attachment!
Who would you most like to interview and what would you ask them?
I’d really like to ask that blogger girl what her deal was, because I know she was looking for a “winter boyfriend.” Why not me?
Do you still buy CD singles/albums, or is it all about downloads?
It’s all about downloads and vinyl for the young kids. I like CDs, but I don’t buy ‘em anymore. Now I get that shit for free from my “contacts.”
Who do you think we should watch out music wise this year?
If you have a taste for the avant, Everything Everything.
How would you promote the British music scene abroad?
By citing the fact that y’all are on the big shit first, and always have been. You pick up on our own bands faster than we do, cases in point: The Killers, Jimi Hendrix, & The Strokes.
And finally what else should we know about your act?
Know this: we came, we saw, and we know calculus.
Darwin Deez hit the UK in March and May this year. For more information and sound samples visit www.myspace.com/darwindeez.
