Brits 2010 Blog Part Two

Continuing my rundown of the Brit Awards 2010 Nominations!

Brit’s Performance Of The Past 30 Years!

I do love it when award ceremonies randomly decide to add in new categories to their line-up, though there have been some memorable performances over the years, so maybe this is a valid addition to the line-up. Although this is supposed to represent the past 30 years, the panel have picked performances from 1988, to 2009. There are too many nominees to type here, but the list includes Michael Jackson, Take That, Coldplay, Bros, The Who, Kylie, and The Scissor Sisters. I’m not quite sure I approve of the panel describing The Spice Girls and Girls Aloud as memorable, considering the legends they are up against, but nevertheless, this will be an interesting award to keep an eye on.

I Say: Paul McCartney with Live and Let Die (2008) or Robbie Williams with Tom Jones: Full Monty Medley for the win! Please don’t let it be Kanye West: Gold Digger. Sorry but seriously annoying song!

International Male Solo Artist: Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Jay-Z, Michael Buble, Seasick Steve.

Again an interesting mix of genres covered in this category, and a broad age range too! Picking a winner is easy though so….

I Say: Michael Buble!

International Female Solo Artist: Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke, Norah Jones, Rihanna, Shakira.

Another one of the more predictable lists of nominees, but all to my mind are worthy winners, although maybe Lady Gaga would be more suited to a fashion award than a Brit? That said, these ladies are really doing the international scene proud, with some beautiful songs hitting the charts. Who could forget ‘Hips Don’t Lie’, ‘Umbrella’, and the smash hit ‘Paparazzi’. I hard one to call but….

I Say: The beautiful talents of Rihanna have stolen the show for me.

International Breakthrough Act: Animal Collective, Daniel Merriweather, Empire Of The Sun, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift.

In terms of young artists, I think America has been on a High School Musical pop/rock, samey, should have quit while it was good, overkill at the moment. That said there has been a breath of fresh air in the form of Taylor Swift, and her engaging country/rock sound. I think she’ll be a strong contender for this award, as will the guy, who to me is an out and out winner, thanks to his amazing chart hit ‘Red’.

I Say: Daniel Merriweather! Oh and who on earth are Animal Collective, and Empire of the Sun?!

International Album: Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Black Eyed Peas: The End, Empire of the Sun: Walking On a Dream, Jay-Z: The Blueprint, Lady Gaga: The Fame.

I would like to end this piece, or erm ramble, on a high note, but I can’t really comment on the International Album category, as I’ve not listened to any of the releases! Well no one experiences everything in music do they! So all I can really say is good luck to all concerned.
